Gen-Z Craves a Dynamic Laptop Experience—Intel and Samsung Deliver

Gen-Z & the PC: Dynamic Experiences, High Expectations:

  • As the first full generation of digital natives, Gen-Z spends more time on the PC across a more dynamic set of experiences than other generations, from communicating for work and school (48%) to watching videos (42%) to video chatting (33%), casual gaming (31%) and more.

A Generational Change for Laptops?

Gen-Z is moving into the spotlight. This generation is redefining expectations for everything from culture and entertainment to the workplace and society. These trends converge on the PC, where this generation turn to work, learn, game, connect, create content and more.

So, what does Gen-Z want from the PC? To find out, Intel conducted research on their real-world needs. It’s this human-centered approach that is at the core of the Intel® Evo™ platform.

Here’s what we’ve learned about Gen-Z and the PC—and how we worked with Samsung to deliver on that expectation:

DYNAMIC EXPERIENCES: Gen-Z spends more time on a wider range of PC experiences than other generations.

There’s sometimes a misperception that Gen-Z is exclusively focused on their phones, with less interest in the PC. Our research shows Gen-Z spends more time on their laptops than other generations.2 3 They also use their laptops for a wider range of experiences, including sending work and school emails, watching TV and movies, listening to music, gaming, coding, video chatting and more.4

This means Gen-Z rely on full PC platforms that enable them to do the things that matter the most to them, without compromise. Intel® Evo™ platform-verified designs, have been designed and tested for exactly these kinds of needs. They deliver incredible responsiveness, over 9 hours of battery life,5 instant wake and best-in-class wireless and wired connectivity,6 all verified under real-world conditions.

Gen-Z also expects their PC to enable seamless interactions across all of their devices. As part of the Samsung Galaxy Book series, the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 provide a continuous experience with Samsung phones, tablets and other devices, enabling people to use and manage apps across devices. Samsung also worked with Intel to customize the Bluetooth driver and firmware for SmartThings Find, so people can easily locate their Galaxy Book Pro or Galaxy Book Pro 360.

HIGHER EXPECTATIONS: Gen-Z wants to do it all—and expects the same from their technology.

As the first full generation of digital natives, Gen-Z expects every aspect of their PC experience to be smooth, immersive and adaptive—because their PC is an extension of their daily lives. Of people who bought a laptop in the past six months, those classified as Gen-Z are more likely to still want their new laptop to have longer battery life, faster performance, better graphics and thinner and lighter form factors.7 This suggests some of today’s laptops aren’t meeting all the needs of Gen-Z.

A MULTIMEDIA WORLD: Gen-Z lives in a world of video, social media, gaming and online content.

A growing number of those in Gen-Z are using their PCs to create and edit short videos, share multimedia content and express their creativity. Our research backs this up. Of Gen-Z’s top 10 laptop activities, seven involve multimedia content.4

To bring these experiences to life, a laptop needs immersive graphics, fast connectivity and powerful performance. But that can also quickly drain battery.
