Increasing our sustainability
Our plan is that every Intel NUC Mini PC we create will contain recycled material.
Here’s what we did just last year:
In 2021, we kept 99.5% of all returned material out of landfills.
In 2021, we designed 95% of all packaging to be recyclable or reusable in secondary markets.
We used recycled plastics in many of the Intel® NUC Mini PC chassis.
Setting our sights on complete sustainability
You can feel good about purchasing the Intel NUC. From process to product to packaging, it is one of the most sustainable compute devices available today. Find out more about what we’ve accomplished and are working to achieve to keep the Intel NUC planet-friendly.
Keeping it in the circular economy loop
We’ve intentionally created the Intel NUC to be part of a circular economy. This means we optimize resources and minimize waste in every aspect of the product’s life to make it as regenerative as possible.
Getting a good return on innovation
Our Return Material Authorization (RMA) Program helps make wonderful happen in a circular fashion. Learn how from one of our RMA team members.
I work as a business solution development program manager on our Global Reverse Logistics team. I help coordinate post-sales customer support for products under warranty for Intel NUC Group’s existing and new products.
There are several great aspects to my role. The first is having an inside look at the new products Intel NUC Group is launching. Another fun aspect is I get to work with Global Reverse Logistics relationship managers and Global Customer Support to implement support improvements and enable the support of new products. However, my favorite part of the job is working on circular economy initiatives that not only present us with new business value, but also allow us to extend the lives of our products.
The Return Material Authorization teams work with multiple stakeholders in Intel NUC Group to design end-to-end, cost-efficient warranty solutions. We work with commercial entities to execute repair contracts. We also enable product screening and indicators to flag product issues, and work with planning to forecast warranty product needs. Additionally, we manage several asset recovery programs to drive value for Intel NUC Group and their customers. This is just a small representation of the interaction.
There are two channels for Return Material Authorization support for customers who have product under warranty. The first channel deals with our direct customers. Global Reverse Logistics has customer relationship managers who manage the end-to-end support for this Return Material Authorization program. The second channel is for our resale partners. These customers interact with Global Customer Support to manage their issues on the front end. In the case these customers need replacement products, Global Customer Support coordinates the replacements with Global Reverse Logistics.
We have expanded our product screening and repair programs to improve asset recovery and reuse efforts. This has allowed us to keep up with customer demand for replacements and helped Intel NUC Group weather the supply constraints we have seen post-COVID.
Our philosophy is to use a hierarchy for product disposition. Products offer more value if they can be resold, recovered or repaired vs. recycled or reclaimed. Newer products that still require warranty support will have more effort focused on asset recovery. Since many older products still have some value in secondary markets, we end up having only a small need to recycle or reclaim at Intel.
