Why Digital Readiness for Leaders?

The fast-changing world of digital disruption is powered by Emerging Technologies such as AI, 5G connectivity, cloud and intelligent edge. Governments feel pressure to drive national digital transformation to enhance citizen services and maintain competitiveness by appropriately designing and using technology solutions. However, any digital transformation first requires capacity building by public sector leaders. As per Gartner’s report titled “Transition to Digital Government,” 80% of public leaders say they are behind the private sector.

Program Goals

  • Demystify Emerging Technologies topics: Including AI, cloud, 5G, intelligent edge, cybersecurity for the rapidly changing economic and technological landscape of the world.
  • Help government leaders bridge the current skills gap in Emerging Technologies: With immersive experiences and guide national action plans to build competitiveness.

Digital Readiness for Leaders helps bridge government officials’ skills gap in Emerging Technologies through virtual or face-to-face workshops that are customized to government officials’ needs.

The program follows a four-step experience cycle: Demystify, Demonstrate, Develop and Deploy.

  • Demystify: Intel demystifies Emerging Technologies by engaging leaders in immersive workshops led by an expert. Leaders will get to know how new technologies operate and how they can change the economic landscape.
  • Demonstrate: Intel technologists show the practical applications of technologies by walking through relevant use case examples and lead discussions of international and local best practices.
  • Develop: Intel experts can help the government strategize and develop a national action plan that aligns policy efforts with digital transformation goals.
  • Deployment: Intel brings its industry expertise and ecosystem partners to help the government deploy actual scalable solutions for national impact.
  • An immersive, hands-on workshop series: Custom designed per local country government needs.
  • Technology topics: Include AI, cloud, 5G connectivity, intelligent edge and cybersecurity.
  • Workshop delivery: Intel technologists, business experts and local / international collaboration partners such as UNDP deliver the workshop.
  • Technical overview: On the technology topic selected.
  • Use case and best practice: Understanding of relevant use cases and best practices.

Impact Stories

Building AI solutions and action plans for Costa Rica

In the last two decades, Costa Rica has become the "tech epicenter of Central America" by investing hundreds of millions in digital technologies. Costa Rica's manufacturing leadership includes Intel's Assembly and Test Manufacturing facility, a Research and Development Center, and a Shared Services Center. The Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) recognized the need for the skilling of government leadership on AI to drive growth across industries. CINDE collaborates with Intel for workshops for government leaders and partners from the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). These workshops focus on developing AI solutions and action plans relevant to Costa Rica. The officials go through immersive AI sessions, learn from Intel technologists, hear best practices and interact with international experts. Post-workshop, officials have said that they valued the insights of Intel experts on measuring AI readiness and issues such as bias and data privacy in AI. These insights allowed them to set the foundation to discuss ensuring inclusive, positive impact from AI and maximizing the growth from AI for Costa Rica.

Digital India Dialogues: Empowering public sector leaders on Emerging Technologies

The Indian government recognizes the need to upskill its leaders and policymakers on deploying AI for driving governance processes and enriching decision-making. AI can also improve public service delivery to unlock the trillion-dollar digital opportunity that India has. The National e-Governance Division, under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, collaborated with Intel India and UNDP India on a 100-workshop series called the Digital India Dialogues. The program builds the capacities of government officials at all levels to harness the capabilities of Emerging Technologies. Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, the Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Culture, stated, "AI is not the future, but it is our present. As policymakers, we have to understand how AI and other Emerging Technologies affect our lives. Learn about it, and know its vulnerabilities as data manipulation, privacy, and ethics. I thank Intel for their continued support and recognizing the possibilities of what women leaders can bring to the table."

Smart Africa Digital Academy: Demystifying technologies for African leaders, with Intel

According to a World Bank study, Africa is poised to add $180 billion to its economy by 2025 from digital transformation. Smart Africa Digital Academy (SADA) is chartered to bridge the digital skills gap required to enable citizens to thrive in the digital economy. As the various governments seek to build effective policies to accelerate digital inclusion, SADA partners with Intel for capacity building for decision-makers. SADA runs a series of workshops with Intel to educate and empower Africa government officials on AI and 5G broadband connectivity. As part of the Digital Readiness for Leaders program, officials from more than 20 countries regularly come together in immersive workshops. They also learn international use-cases and formulate action plans. Lacina Koné, Smart Africa's CEO and Director-General, states, "We have built a strong relationship with Intel over several years as an integral member of the Smart Africa Alliance. This partnership is premised on the understanding that digital growth should be underpinned by strong and informed decision-making. Capacity building for decision-makers is a critical element through which we build towards a single digital market for Africa."
